Personal Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei

Opus Dei, founded by Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, is a Personal Prelature whose purpose is to bring all sectors of society to the profound realization that all Christians are called to holiness and to the apostolate in the performance of their professional work.  It is composed of a prelate, priests, laypersons, men and women, who, because of their specific vocation, become members of the Prelature.

The general norms governing personal prelatures are found in the Code of Canon Law (canons 294-297).
